2008 Formula One World champion Lewis Hamilton has been awarded an MBE [Member of the Order of the British Empire] in the Queen’s New Year Honours List because of his services to motor racing.

On the Carlos Slim rumour Ross Brawn told The Daily Telegraph: “We would love it if it were true, but it’s pure speculation from various members of the media. It’s just been one of those rumours which has developed a life of its own.”

Fernando Alonso has a secret agreement to join Ferrari for four years from 2011, Italian sports daily La Gazzetta dello Sport reported on Sunday.

The newspaper said the deal had several get-out clauses for both sides but added that Alonso could join Ferrari even earlier, in 2010, if 2007 world champion Kimi Raikkonen follows this year’s disappointing season with another bad campaign.

Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim is one of four parties talking to bosses of the former Honda Formula One team over a rescue bid, BBC Sport reports.

On Saturday, Italian newspaper La Stampa reported Slim had “saved” Honda and that Jenson Button and Bruno Senna would be the team’s 2009 drivers.

Williams has confirmed that its 2009 contender, the Williams-Toyota FW31, will make its track debut at the Algarve Motor Park circuit on Monday, January 19 alongside Renault launching their new contender.
